Catching Up

I finally got around to upgrading my blog. Transient Dreams is now running on WordPress 2.5. I didn’t like the new admin panel much so I’m using Dean Robinson’s Fluency Admin. I also uploaded a new theme, as you may have noticed.¹ I’m going to leave this up until I find the time to make my own WP 2.5-compatible theme.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I did something that people don’t usually do! — I found a Motorola phone in the girls’ restroom at the 11th floor of the SDA building and turned it over to the 9th floor Lost and Found section.² I hope the owner thought of looking there… She might have just assumed that it was gone forever. It’s a well-known fact that when you lose a cellphone, it usually turns up in Quiapo or Greenhills. I know someone who got held up and saw his old phone again.³

I haven’t been on Yahoo! Messenger for a while but Jim and I chatted when the phones started acting up so I’ve been leaving YM open.⁴ Two of my closest friends from college, Icy and Jenny, caught me online and we finally got the chance to talk. I haven’t seen either of them for over a year now. Icy is worried about med school and Jen broke up with her boyfriend last February. We mostly talked about how life is so much different now than it was back when we were still in college. We had different problems than we do now but I suppose everything was easier then, even though we didn’t think so at the time. I like to think we’re better equipped to handle problems now.

I just wish we were all a bit happier. I mean, I know I am — I’m happier than I’ve ever been in a long while.⁵ I just wish my friends were too.

Jen and I are planning to see each other the week after next. I need to call M-Rize and see when she’d be available. We have a lot of catching up to do!

My dad broke the air conditioner in my room. I have no idea what he did but the knob just came off. Normally I wouldn’t mind because I can sleep even without air conditioning⁶ but it’s the beginning of summer and the heat is getting hard to bear. My room is the HOTTEST room in the house. Electric fans don’t help much and I don’t want to sleep with the windows open. A child (or a small adult) can fit through the window — it’s true! We’ve tried it before.

Oh, speaking of heat! There was a fire in our neighborhood earlier. I’m not sure where exactly but I saw and heard the fire trucks on the other street. I hope no one got hurt.

Before I go and have lunch,⁷ I want to thank everyone who gave their opinions/advice on my previous post (comments, emails, phone calls, etc.). I’ll let you all know what I decide.

I’ve come to realize some things… Maybe MMA really isn’t for me. I’d like to try and rediscover what I loved about Psychology. I’ve been reading my old books and notes. If I decide to pursue a career in that field, I’d still like to become a Psychometrician — it was always that or continuing on to med school to become a Pediatrician.

Hey fats! I’m so overwhelmed that you even wrote our little catch up thingie here in your blog. Haay… it has been a long while since we haven’t talked or even seen each other. When was the last time? I guess during grad, last October of 2006! Whoah!

Well I really have to agree on what you wrote regarding how things turned out differently now that we’re not seeing each other and considering that we have different paths. The problems that we have right now, especially with my case, it’s totally different from what we had back in college. Things are getting a lot more serious than what we expected. Regarding job itself, well you can’t do extensions of submission of projects and so on. You can’t even bargain with our clients/ customers regarding what they want (because customers are always right). And most importantly, you have to prove yourself to your boss and even to your colleagues that you are a top performer or else you’ll be fired . Well these are the problems that I’m facing right now… I consider them as challenges.

Regarding your challenge fats, well… I believe you can be a good psychometrician considering the fact that you’re good in statistics, I have faith in you that you can succeed. As what I’ve told you, just make the right choice and make sure that it is what you’ve been searching for because in the end, you’re the only person who will figure out what’s best for you and what makes you truly happy. If you want to continue your MMA degree, go and pursue it! If you’ve lost your interest then I guess you really have to stop it.

So humahaba na itong comment ko sau, parang blog na ito. So ’til then fats! I’ll see you 2 weeks from now. We have a lot of “catch ups” to do. Tc!

I upgraded to Wordpress 2.5, too, but am actually quite happy with the admin panel, except the non-fluid, non-centred new design. Also didn’t like that the search function now searches both posts and pages. But otherwise it’s quite a fresh upgrade.

The current room I rent has NO air-con, and it’s not properly built so the place gets extra hot in summer and extra cold in winter. But then rent is very cheap. Can’t beat the price, I guess.

Aww, I hope the owner of the cell phone finds it too! She may have just called the provider up and cancelled or whatever, since it’s lost…

Oh wow! I’m sorry to hear about the AC! If it was summer here, I wouldn’t like that either!

YIKES about the fire! I know how that’s like, because there was a fire in my apartment complex 2 months ago!

Looks like you’ve got some good karma coming to you for turning in that cell phone! There are plenty of people who wouldn’t do that. I know if I had to lay my phone down and accidentally leave it behind, I’d probably never see it again. (It’s one of those metallic red Motorolla KRZR phones.)

That was nice of you to return the phone, in my college if you lose a phone or iPod its gone forever.
Its great that you got to catch up with your friends, wow a year is a long time not to see someone.

Thanks for sharing that admin plugin!! I really liked the tiger admin theme as well and was very disappointed when it wasn’t compatible. I love this fluency one even more now!!!

Oh no… I hope your dad will be able to fix the air conditioning. I hate living in a room that that is the hottest in the house. That just means for 8 hours of the day the sun is shining into your room.

Fires are always sad… I hope everyone made it out safely!

I’m not fond of the new look of wordpress’s admin, either, and I’m annoyed that they’ve removed the file editing function. I get annoyed easily. :D

I’ve found that as you grow up or older then your situation evolves to fit your age LMAO! Things will get more complicated for a while before settling down again.

I upgraded to 2.5 as well. Did you do the manual upgrade or use the Automatic Updater plugin? I love that thing! It makes upgrading so simple.
That’s cool that you got to catch up with some old friends via Yahoo.
That sucks about your air-conditioning. I could use some heat here right about now though. It’s so miserable here. I wish spring would hurry up and get here for good.

Ya I love the new version though it took a little getting used to. I haven’t heard of that fluency plug-in, but I might check it out. It’s great you got to catch up with your old friends, but why does the one call you fats?

Yeah, I don’t really like the wordpress 2.5 admin look either, but, I’m getting used to it. This is a nice theme, it’s clean and simple just what I like.

I’ve never updated my wordpress… I’m kind of worried too. I always hear a lot of horror stories about it and I’m used to mine.

I hope that girl finds her phone. It was good of you to turn it into lost and found.
